[English] Vocabulary In Context

Repetition is often the key to success and studies show that most repetitive tasks become part of a person's inventory of skills over time. 每個單詞都有 denotation 跟 connotation, 所以要猜出單詞的意義通常透過 (1) 字根、字尾 (2) 前後文 在推斷句子中單詞意義時, 有4種線索:    a. restatement    b. positive / negative    c. contrast    d. specific detail Example A Handi suddenly found himself destitute , so poor that he could barely afford to eat.   restatement: destitute and poor, negative: so poor, barely   => destitute: extremely poor Example B Sarah had worked so hard for the past few weeks that she decided she owed herself a day of complete indolence . Saturday, she slept until noon, ordered take-out so she wouldn't have to cook , and left the dishes in the sink. She left her chores for another day and spent the afternoon lying on the couch, reading and watching television. But on Sunday, she was back to her old assiduous self, and by noon, she had already cleaned her whole apa...

Due to being located in the hurricane belt of Atlantic ocean, it sometimes confronts storm damage. There are about 2.7 million residents there, quite less because more than half Jamaican left and migrated to other countries such as America, Canada, and UK for decades for sake of families or better lives. Of course, there are also new migrants to Jamaica. Most of them are from Caribbean islands, such as Haiti for economic reason and having a better life, really. They came by boat and that explains why there are lots of history about boat people in Jamaica. They finally ends up working in bars or restaurants and they help the development of  tourism industry indeed.

Vocabulary & Terms

1. aerobics (a form of physical exercise, rhythmic aerobic exercise, music) She generally does aerobics after she gets up. 2,  tall tale (unusual or unbelievable story) His 10 millions heritage is a tall tale. He is simply a  bachelor. 3. burn off (get rid of) The teacher has the boy to run around the gym to burn off his extra energy. 4. anxiety (feelings of being worried) Working out at the health club helps me get rid of anxiety and frustraction from work. 5. buy a story Don’t buy a story that he exercises everyday. It’s just not true. 6. barbell (a piece of exercise equiment, weight training, weight lifting)

1. GEPT中高級 2. 日文: 2010 年起日本語能力試驗考試制度將有所變更,將於2級與3級間再增加一個級數,即測驗級數由四個級數改為五個級數,為 N1 、 N2 、 N3 、 N4 、 N5 。7月份辦理N1~N3三個級數,12月份則N1~N5五個級數全部辦理。
